Cardinal Health seeks a Coordinator, Financial Counseling at its Fresno, CA clinic to support patients and providers with financial clearance, education on costs, and risk identification before services are rendered.

The role focuses on minimizing financial risk, improving reimbursement outcomes, and delivering clear, compassionate communication to patients; requires 4+ years in healthcare billing/revenue cycle and knowledge of oncology finance.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a healthcare business office or revenue cycle role preferred
• Strong knowledge of insurance and benefits and patient Financial Assistance Programs
• Strong understanding of oncology treatment pathways
• Familiarity with high-cost oncology drugs, infusion services and specialty pharmacy billing preferred
• Working knowledge of diagnosis driven financial impact (metastatic vs early stage treatment cost difference) preferred
• Experience with billing systems and interpreting EOBs
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
• Ability to navigate multiple systems with ease, i.e. EMR, Registration/PMS systems, VOB systems, verifying Auth and Financial clearance with minimal direction from supervisor(s) and leadership.
• Critical thinking and ability to think outside the box, adapt to process and workflow changes easily.
• Experience in oncology or specialty care preferred
• Working knowledge of: ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding, managed care concepts and fee structures
• Background in financial counseling or patient-facing financial roles

Responsibilities

• Review schedules to identify patients needing financial clearance
• Educate patients on expected financial responsibility including deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximums
• Provide clear communication regarding costs and payment expectations prior to services
• Assist patients in understanding their financial obligations prior to services
• Evaluate potential financial risks associated with scheduled services
• Escalate high-risk accounts for review
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to reduce risk of claim denials
• Support resolution of pre-service financial issues impacting reimbursement
• Maintain accurate documentation of all financial discussions
• Protect patient confidentiality per HIPAA
• Communicate effectively with internal teams to support revenue cycle processes
• Deliver high-quality customer service with empathy and professionalism
• Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Display attention to detail and teamwork
