Job summary

Swope Health is seeking a Financial Counselor to help patients understand and manage the financial aspects of their care in Kansas City. You will verify insurance, assist with Medicaid and Marketplace applications, set up payment plans, and educate patients about coverage options.

In this role you will explain bills in clear terms, document interactions in the EHR, and collaborate with registration, billing, and clinical staff to support access to care while complying with HIPAA and payer

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare financial counseling, medical billing, insurance verification, or a related field.
• Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, commercial insurance, and Marketplace plans.
• Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance on insurance benefits, out-of-pocket costs, and financial assistance programs.
• Assist patients with Medicaid, Marketplace plans, sliding fee discounts, and other applications.
• Explain billing statements, charges, and payment options to patients.
• Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and authorization requirements prior to services.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the EHR and billing systems.
