Job summary

Surgery Partners, Inc. is seeking a Financial Counselor to act as the primary contact for patients regarding registration, benefit verification and payor pre-authorization.

The role integrates these functions with payment arrangements and cash collection to help maximize reimbursement. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of hospital billing experience, strong interviewing skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and proficiency with billing systems, ICD-9/CPT-4 coding, and high-speed

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in registration, physician or hospital billing, third party reimbursement, benefits verification and pre-authorization processing; hospital management experience preferred.
• Expertise in interviewing patients and/or family members.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-9/CPT-4 coding.
• Experience with computer-based billing systems.
• Ten-key skills and ability to type 30 wpm.
• Strong customer service and cash collection skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication; ability to multi-task.

Responsibilities

• Integrates registration, benefit verification and payor pre-authorization with payment arrangements and cash collection.
• Facilitates cash collection for identified services.
• Meets with patients/families to review payment and collection guidelines.
• Works with outside agencies to obtain payment for uninsured patients.
• Resolves patient billing issues in a timely fashion.
• Demonstrates competency with Signature and Invision Systems.
• Contributes to department productivity and prioritizes workload daily.
