Job summary

Adventist HealthCare’s Outpatient Imaging in Germantown, MD seeks an experienced Patient Service Specialist to greet patients, schedule tests and referrals, verify demographics and insurance, and assist with pre-registration while guiding financial conversations. The role requires strong customer service, familiarity with scheduling systems, and knowledge of medical terminology.

The schedule is full-time with shifts Mon-Wed 10:30am-7:00pm and Tue- Fri 8:30am-5:00pm; hourly pay ranges from $19.64

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or two years college preferred.
• Three years’ experience in providing customer services is necessary.
• Customer service experience in a patient care environment, including scheduling, is preferred.
• Experience using a computerized patient scheduling system or computer terminals is necessary.
• Familiarity with medical insurance and medical terminology is necessary.
• Typing skill of 30 wpm is necessary.
• Knowledge of IDX patient scheduling/registration systems is preferred.
• 2 years of office management experience, preferably in physician office or ambulatory care setting.

Responsibilities

• Greet and direct patients for appointments and tests using effective customer relations skills.
• Schedule patient appointments and referrals using a computerized scheduling system.
• Obtain and verify patient demographics, financial and insurance information.
• Perform pre-registration activities and register patients into the scheduling system.
• Maintain patient appointment history and scheduling records.
• Counsel patients on unpaid balances and anticipated costs for services.
• Collect payments at the time of appointment and provide receipts.
• Print forms or reminder cards for patient encounters and daily operations.
• Coordinate with physicians and nursing staff to facilitate patient encounters.
• Answer inquiries about services and provide information on procedures and rules.
