Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Patient Encounter Specialist for the Urgent Care Clinic (AM). This role handles patient check-in, scheduling, data entry, and front-desk duties to ensure smooth clinic operations.

Schedules: Monday - Friday, 7am - 7pm, Saturday, 8am - 3pm, Sunday 1pm - 5pm

Job Description

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, to perform a variety of specialized services in support of the operations of assigned clinic. To check in scheduled and add-on patients to the clinic, answer telephone and route calls, and enter demographic, insurance and charge data into the system. To check patients out of the clinic and perform patient follow-up as necessary. May perform other clerical duties related to collection, deposit and recording of clinic revenue. Depending upon clinic need, to provide assistance and respond to patient needs within the waiting room. To consistently demonstrate outstanding customer service to patients, visitors, physicians and staff.

Qualifications

One (1) year of customer service experience required. Business Office education or similar coursework desired. Must: (1) attend all required course work assigned by management; (2) possess basic knowledge of medical terminology and advanced knowledge of PC applications, software and database management; (3) be able to perform math and bookkeeping skills; (4) possess exceptional telephone and customer service skills and (5) be knowledgeable of English grammar and punctuation. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
