Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a patient services associate to check in patients, route calls, and enter demographics and insurance data. You will check out patients, perform follow-up, and support revenue-related tasks. Strong customer service and accuracy are essential.

The role requires at least one year of customer service experience and knowledge of medical terminology. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, with opportunities for growth in a large health system.

Qualifications

• One year of customer service experience required.
• Business Office education or similar coursework desired.
• Must attend all required coursework assigned by management.
• Must possess basic knowledge of medical terminology and advanced knowledge of PC applications, software and database management.
• Must be able to perform math and bookkeeping skills.
• Must possess exceptional telephone and customer service skills and be knowledgeable of English grammar and punctuation.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Check in scheduled and add-on patients to the clinic and route calls.

Job Description

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, to perform a variety of specialized services in support of the operations of assigned clinic. To check in scheduled and add-on patients to the clinic, answer telephone and route calls, and enter demographic, insurance and charge data into the system. To check patients out of the clinic and perform patient follow-up as necessary. May perform other clerical duties related to collection, deposit and recording of clinic revenue. Depending upon clinic need, to provide assistance and respond to patient needs within the waiting room. To consistently demonstrate outstanding customer service to patients, visitors, physicians and staff.
