Job summary

UAB Medicine's Montgomery Dermatology Clinic seeks a Patient Encounter Specialist to support front-desk operations, greet patients, check in and check out, and handle calls with professionalism.

The role emphasizes accurate data entry of demographics, insurance and charges, plus respond to patient needs in the waiting area while delivering outstanding customer service in a busy clinic setting.

Qualifications

• One year of customer service experience required.
• Business Office education or similar coursework desired.
• Must: attend all required course work assigned by management; possess basic knowledge of medical terminology and advanced knowledge of PC applications, software and database management; be able to perform math and bookkeeping skills; possess exceptional telephone and customer service skills; be knowledgeable of English grammar and punctuation.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Check in scheduled and add-on patients to the clinic.
• Answer telephone and route calls, and enter demographic, insurance and charge data into the system.
• Check patients out of the clinic and perform patient follow-up as necessary.
• May perform other clerical duties related to collection, deposit and recording of clinic revenue.
• Provide assistance and respond to patient needs within the waiting room and demonstrate outstanding customer service.

Job Description

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, to perform a variety of specialized services in support of the operations of assigned clinic. To check in scheduled and add-on patients to the clinic, answer telephone and route calls, and enter demographic, insurance and charge data into the system. To check patients out of the clinic and perform patient follow-up as necessary. May perform other clerical duties related to collection, deposit and recording of clinic revenue. Depending upon clinic need, to provide assistance and respond to patient needs within the waiting room. To consistently demonstrate outstanding customer service to patients, visitors, physicians and staff.

Qualifications
