Job summary

Clemson Eye is seeking a patient communications specialist to support surgical patients. The role requires an optimistic mindset and excellent interpersonal skills, with some local travel and potential overtime.

You will handle scheduling, pre/post-operative guidance, insurance explanations, and patient inquiries by phone to ensure smooth surgical workflows. Two years in healthcare or patient education, plus a valid driver's license, are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two years’ experience in a healthcare or patient education role.
  • Valid and active Driver’s License.
  • Candidate should be optimistic and possess excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of eye surgery to address patient inquiries.
  • Efficiently schedule surgeries and provide pre- and post-operative care instructions.
  • Prepare detailed charts for scheduled surgeries with accuracy and completeness.
  • Understand common local insurance plans (e.g., Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Commercial) and educate patients on deductibles and out-of-pocket costs.
  • Communicate with patients by phone to address inquiries and provide necessary information.
  • Organize patient charts and keep information up to date for surgical procedures.

Clemson Eye is a growing, multi-specialty ophthalmology practice. We are looking for individuals to handle patient communication for surgery. The successful candidate must have an optimistic outlook and excellent interpersonal skills. Some travel to local sites will be required. Overtime may be required.

Job Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of eye surgery to effectively address patient inquiries.
  • Efficiently schedule surgeries, coordinating with patients and providing clear instructions for pre‑ and post‑operative care.
  • Prepare detailed charts for all scheduled surgeries, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Have a basic understanding of how insurance works for common insurance plans in the area, such as Medicare payers, Medicare Advantage Plans, and Commercial Plans.
  • Educate patients on insurance, including deductibles and out‑of‑pocket costs.
  • Engage in telephone correspondence with surgical patients as needed, addressing inquiries and providing necessary information.
  • Organize patient charts systematically and update all pertinent information for surgical procedures.
