Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics seeks a patient education and access specialist to educate patients and caregivers on disease state, therapy access, and reimbursement concepts. You will build relationships, tailor education, and guide coverage navigation while supporting cross-functional teams across the organization.

The role emphasizes proactive patient engagement, adherence to HIPAA and regulatory standards, and a willingness to travel up to 50% including overnights as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in a direct patient support role; ability to explain disease state, product, and access/reimbursement concepts at the consumer level.
  • Clinical/Allied Health degree/licensure preferred; at least 5 years of clinical experience in pediatrics, endocrinology, neurology, ENT, orthopedics, or related.
  • Minimum 2 years pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Preferred: experience with orphan/rare disease product launches; educating patients/caregivers to administer injectable products; working through reimbursement obstacles.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, FDA requirements, and OIG compliance guidelines.
  • Ability to work autonomously and communicate with cross-functional partners; adapt quickly to patient needs; excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for education on disease state, products, and therapy access and administration.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with patients and caregivers via in-person and virtual interactions.
  • Assess patient needs and develop action plans using approved resources to empower advocacy.
  • Provide individualized education on disease state and product using approved resources.
  • Educate patients on insurance coverage and the process for obtaining therapy.
  • Conduct medication administration education once coverage is established.
  • Provide information on affordability resources as needed.
  • Manage long-term relationships with patients and their care teams with a tailored communication plan.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional internal teams.
  • Partner with Patient Advocacy and attend education symposia as needed.
  • Partner with Patient Safety and PV and QA colleagues to report AEs and product complaints.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Up to 50% travel (including overnight), including weekend travel.
