Responsibilities

CHI St. Alexius is looking for Patient Companions to join the team! The Patient Companion, under the direction of a Licensed Practitioner, assists in providing a safe and therapeutic environment for patients who require close monitoring and/or may be confused, impulsive, or at risk for injury. The Patient Companion follows duties as directed by the Registered Nurse and in line with CHI Health policies. They provide services addressing the spiritual, physiological, social, and psychological aspects of care, contributing to the mission and core values of CHI Health.

What You'll Do

• Ensure patient safety as an assigned staff member.
• Assist in providing a safe and therapeutic environment for patients who are confused, impulsive, unable to perform teach-back, or at risk for self-harm or injury, under RN supervision.
• Document care activities according to policy.
• Maintain personal and professional development, foster a safe work environment, and support collaborative patient care.
• Set response priorities and communicate effectively with team members.
• Respond appropriately in emergencies to support clinical staff.

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 14 days of employment.
• Mandatory Adult/Child Abuse Reporting training (APS- IA & NE) within 6 months of start date.
• Preferred: One year of experience in Behavioral Health or Human Services, or Nurse Aide training. Current nursing students or students in Human Services fields will be considered.
