Job summary

IU Health is seeking a patient care assistant to provide a blend of direct patient care and unit clerical duties within the department. The role supports the patient care team, maintains a clean environment, and assists with scheduling tests and procedures as needed.

You will also help with patient records and sign-in/out processes. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, BLS certification, and basic computer skills.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • CPR may be required to complete Unit Secretary training program.
  • Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
  • Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or attainment of the IU Health PCA education program.
  • Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Requires knowledge of infection control principles.
  • Requires basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care under the direction of a Clinical Nurse and supports the patient care team.
  • Ensures a clean and orderly environment for the patient.
  • Provides information, directions and other assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
  • May schedule tests and procedures for the patient and maintain patient records.
  • May sign patients in and out of the unit; may be responsible for ordering, receiving and delivering equipment and supplies.
  • May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
