Job description

UPMC Jameson is hiring a Weekend Patient Care Technician to join the Peri Anesthesia team!

This full-time role offers 24 hours of work each weekend, with Weekend Program PCTs earning an additional 20% on top of base pay.

Note: Final candidates will be selected for a job title within the career ladder that reflects their education, experience, and manager discretion at the time of offer.

Purpose:

Provides routine patient care and supports department services according to established policies and procedures, under the direction of nurses or physicians, to maintain high-quality patient care. Completes advanced patient care duties after training and annual competencies. Must routinely perform basic nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care) and has completed basic arrhythmia class. Performs at least four of the following tasks: phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV catheter removal, femoral hemostasis, or IV insertion.

Responsibilities:

• Assists with patient procedures and activities of daily living, and supports physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Reports patient status changes to RN.
• Performs nursing assistant duties and at least four hospital-identified tasks from the list above.
• Reports equipment malfunctions, communicates effectively with other departments, and maintains professional relationships. Participates in unit activities like responding to call lights, passing meals, and patient transport.
• Receives feedback positively, identifies learning needs, and seeks growth opportunities. Participates in self-review and performance improvement.
• Provides patient and family instruction under RN supervision. May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints as per protocol.
• Communicates clearly with the healthcare team, understands cultural diversity, and promotes safety. Builds productive relationships and demonstrates accountability and enthusiasm.
• Adheres to all policies regarding patient care and hospital information, including safety protocols.
• Supports departmental changes, takes responsibility, and contributes to quality initiatives.
• Documents in medical records accurately and completes clerical tasks efficiently.
• Manages care for patients with CHF and Acute CVA, understanding their specific needs.
