Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA is hiring Patient Care Technicians for the Vascular Unit. This full-time night-shift role (12-hour shifts) includes 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM with rotating weekends and holidays.

The PCT assists with patient care, vital signs, mobility, phlebotomy, EKG testing, and specimen collection under RN supervision. Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program or CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or equivalent.
• US Navy Hospital Corps School or EMR/EMS/EMT/AEMT/Paramedic training also eligible.
• Clinical student in RN/LPN/RT/PT programs or recent PCT/Nursing Assistant experience within 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and assist with activities of daily living.
• Monitor vital signs, mobility, ambulation, and phlebotomy as directed by RN.
• Perform EKG testing, point-of-care testing, and specimen collection.
• Assist with Foley catheter insertion/removal and IV care as needed.
• Document observations accurately and report changes to nursing staff.

Overview:

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) for the Vascular Unit . This is a Full Time, Night Shift (12-hour shift) position.

Hours: 7:00PM to 7:00AM - Three 12-hour shifts (36 hours per week), with rotating weekends and holidays.

Department Overview: Our 24-bed stepdown/intermediate care specialty unit provides care to patients with vascular disorders, kidney, and pancreas transplants!

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Qualifications

Education:

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Physical Therapist (PT) program, or
• Current work experience within the last three years as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Nursing Assistant.

Certifications/Licensure:

AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience:

One year of health care experience (Preferred).

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $18.93 - $27.41 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
