Job summary

IU Health in Indianapolis is seeking a Unit Secretary/Patient Care Assistant to provide a blend of direct patient care and essential clerical support on the unit. You will assist the care team, keep the environment clean, and help with patient flow and documentation.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, CPR/BLS certification, and knowledge of medical terminology and infection control. You will interact with physicians, patients, families, and vendors to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; PCA training may be needed.
• CPR certification required or completed through IU Health PCA program.
• Experience in acute patient care or completion of IU Health PCA education program.
• BLS certification through AHA or IU Health program.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of patient care procedures and standards.
• Infection control principles.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and unit clerical support under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Assist with information, directions and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• Schedule tests and procedures, maintain patient records, and sign patients in and out of the unit.
• May order, receive and deliver equipment and supplies for the patient care team.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
