Great River Health Systems, West Burlington, IA, seeks a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide basic patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse and perform essential clerical duties on the unit.

You will assist with admissions, document vitals and intake/output, and support multiple patient populations including Surgical, Geriatric, Medical/Surgical, Adult, Pediatric, Obstetric, Telemetry and Psychiatric. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Basic Telemetry course is required.
• Medical terminology course or completion within one year of hire.
• Completion of CNA course (or completion within four months of hire). If currently in high school, CNA course required upon hire.
• Health care experience within the past five years (preferred).
• Computer literacy and experience with office procedures and terminology (preferred).
• Knowledge and understanding of English language, communication, and customer service principles (preferred).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accuracy, and perform basic math for intake/output.

Responsibilities

• Care for the restrained patient and monitor for safety as directed by the licensed nurse.
• Perform bedside shift report and end-of-shift handoffs.
• Adhere to policies and procedures to prevent patient falls and assist in wound prevention and hospital-acquired pressure injuries.
• Be cost-conscious in the use of equipment and supplies.
• Adhere to safety practices for personal protection (infection control devices, lifts, gait belts, eye shields, gloves).
• Demonstrate accurate keyboarding proficiency and computer navigation skills.
• Demonstrate knowledge of basic math to calculate intake and output.
• Answer patients’ call lights promptly and address requests or coordinate with staff to fulfill requests.
• Deliver messages, documents, and specimens; observe and document patient conditions, intake/output, and vital signs; report changes to professional staff.
• Maintain inventory of supplies based on unit routines; monitor patient safety and communicate needs for monitoring devices (alarms) to the licensed nurse.
• Utilize patient safety devices and document activities accurately in the medical record.
• Facilitate admissions, discharges and transfers in collaboration with other staff.
