Job summary

UPMC Mercy Health Center in Pittsburgh is seeking a full-time Patient Care Technician Specialist to join the PM&R Injection and Outpatient Testing team at the Mercy Pavilion. You will enjoy a Monday through Friday schedule with variable start times and no weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts while providing hands‑on support to patients and the clinical team.

Qualifications

• Performs clinical and personal care tasks under RN direction.
• Monitors vital signs and reports changes promptly.
• Collects specimens and assists with phlebotomy and IV procedures.
• Maintains a clean, safe patient environment and adheres to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient-centered care with professionalism and cultural sensitivity.
• Assists with bathing, feeding, toileting, mobility, and transport.
• Obtains vitals, weights, intake/output, and point-of-care tests.
• Applies telemetry monitors and supports HAC/PSI prevention measures.
• Performs dressing changes, bladder scans, and catheter-related tasks.
• Administers advanced skills including IV insertion/removal, Foley catheterization.
• Maintains competency in at least one additional advanced skill based on unit needs.
• Provides patient/family instruction under RN supervision.
• Responds to call lights, assists with meals, and supports unit activities.
• Transports cardiovascular patients and completes department clerical duties.
• Documents care in the medical record per procedure.
• Reports equipment issues and supports safe care environment.
• Participates in department projects and quality initiatives.
