Department/Unit Summary

Join our team! This department consists of 34-bed Medical-Surgical and Telemetry floors, providing care for a diverse patient population requiring acute medical and cardiac monitoring services. Staffing includes 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) per floor based on census. When the patient census exceeds 24 patients, a third technician is added to support patient care needs. The typical patient-to-technician ratio is approximately 8-12 patients per technician, ensuring adequate support for patient care, mobility assistance, vital sign monitoring, and activities of daily living. The team works collaboratively with nursing staff to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced acute care environment.

How you'll contribute:

A Patient Care Tech who excels in this role:

• Performs basic patient care as delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possible blood glucose measurements, and accurate intake/output recording.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, ambulation).
• Observes and promptly reports abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
• Maintains clean, safe, and well-stocked patient rooms and common areas.
• Manages the tech desk and supports nursing/physician staff and overall department throughput.
• Documents care and activities per unit standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned; participates in performance improvement and required education.
