PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Functions as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and regulatory requirements. Responsible for setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and supporting quality improvement initiatives.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Staff Related
  • Participates in recruitment, clinical orientation, and ongoing training of staff.
  • Functions as a preceptor in direct patient care training programs.
  • Delivers and maintains competency evaluations and collaborates on quality standards and legal requirements.
Education/Communication
  • Partners with RN and IDT staff to educate on water system integrity and safety.
  • Ensures effective communication regarding training and organizational initiatives.
  • Implements and designs educational programs, including team-based activities.
Patient Related
  • Provides patient education on adequacy measures and disease processes.
  • Performs vascular access evaluation, cannulation, dialysis treatment, and monitoring.
  • Records treatment data accurately and reports significant changes to the nurse supervisor.
Infection Control Specialization
  • Assists with infection control audits and reinforces practices among staff and patients.
Maintenance/Technical
