Patient Care Technician - PCT - Training Provided

Job Overview

Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including all regulatory and policy requirements.

Works as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. Responsible for setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe environment, and participating in quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
  • Deliver outstanding service to all customers, internal and external.
  • Develop effective relationships through clear communication.
  • Respond promptly to customer issues, resolving and following up as needed.
Patient Care
  • Assist in patient education regarding dialysis adequacy measures and disease management.
  • Welcome patients, monitor well-being, and report concerns.
  • Evaluate vascular access, obtain vital signs, and assist with cannulation.
  • Administer Heparin as permitted, initiate and discontinue dialysis treatments, and monitor patient responses.
  • Document treatment details accurately and report any significant changes.
Maintenance/Technical
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of the treatment environment.
  • Prepare and maintain dialysis equipment, perform safety checks, and manage supplies.
Clerical & Administrative
  • Participate in CQI activities, document treatment data, and prepare patient charts and lab specimens.
Additional duties
  • Perform other tasks as assigned, including home program support and inventory management.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or G.E.D.; certification or licensure as required by state or CMS standards.
  • Preferred experience in healthcare; successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification required.
Physical Demands & Conditions

Requires ability to perform heavy lifting, prolonged standing, bending, and ambulation assistance. Must pass Ishihara's Color Blindness test. Work environment includes healthcare facility conditions, potential exposure to infectious materials, and travel between sites.
