Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean work environment, and supporting the organization's Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes.
Education: Assist healthcare team members in providing patient-specific education regarding adequacy measures such as OLC, AMP, UKM, and disease process/access.
Treatment: Welcome patients, evaluate vascular access, obtain vital signs, initiate and monitor dialysis, evaluate responses, and document all procedures accurately. Report significant changes to the RN or supervisor and ensure safety alarms are active.
Assist in training direct care staff under supervision of a nurse.
Follow policies, maintain a clean environment, disinfect equipment, and prepare for dialysis treatments. Initiate SDS system and ensure all safety and procedural protocols are followed.
Participate in CQI activities, document treatment data accurately, prepare patient charts, and manage lab specimens and requisitions.
Support infection control practices, participate in audits, and educate patients and families under the direction of the CM or designee.
Follow new patients through initial weeks, reinforce education, coordinate care, and assist with treatment setup and supply management.
Work involves desk work, patient interaction, travel between facilities, and exposure to health risks. Heavy lifting and prolonged standing are required, with accommodations available for disabilities.
High School diploma or G.E.D. required. Must meet state or CMS certification/licensure requirements. Demonstrate commitment to organizational values and customer service.
Preferred previous patient care experience; successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification is required for continued employment.
