Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Part Time Patient Care Technician (PCA) to provide compassionate bedside care, assist with meals and daily activities, and help maintain patient safety and comfort. You will support the bedside RN by taking vital signs and communicating changes promptly.

The role emphasizes safety procedures, hygiene, and responsive patient interactions in a busy hospital setting. The PCA position requires current BLS (AHA) certification or completion of IU Health PCA

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Must have knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients.
• Must stay informed about procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Must demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must manage a high workload with concentration amid interruptions and variable noise levels.
• Must exercise judgment and initiative in resolving problems encountered.
• Must read and perform basic math.
• Must maintain good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques to prevent infection.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks, assist with meals, encourage walking, assist with baths, and provide clean linens and gowns.
• Assist bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities or changes in a patient’s condition.
• Utilize safety measures such as gait belts, bed and chair alarms, and stay within arm’s reach of patients when moving.
• Contribute to a fast-paced hospital environment while delivering compassionate patient care.
