Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Medical Surgical Unit at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, MA. The role supports daily patient care, monitors vital signs, and assists with mobility and ADLs, working nights on a 36-hour week across three 12-hour shifts.

You'll collaborate with nurses and physicians, document observations, and respond to emergencies while delivering compassionate patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• BLS CPR certification through American Heart Association required.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, age-appropriate patient care including activities of daily living, mobility, and personal care.
• Monitor and document vital signs, weights, intake/output, and report changes to nursing staff.
• Assist with treatments, procedures, dressing changes, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and physician examinations.
• Provide one-to-one observation as needed and respond to emergencies.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary team to ensure patient-centered care.

Baystate Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our Medical Surgical at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts . Our Medical Surgical unit is a 46-bed unit includes telemetry and intermediate care and provides care for the emergency department's overflow. Nurses are cross trained to provide coverage in telemetry, IMC and the ED for this reason, making this a great opportunity for a new nurse looking to gain experience in multiple specialties.

Baystate Wing Hospital is a 74-bed community hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts, fully accredited by the Joint Commission and designated a Primary Stroke Service hospital by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The Patient Care Technician role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients' lives while gaining hands-on clinical experience and building a strong foundation for career growth in healthcare while working alongside a collaborative care team dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate patient care.

The Patient Care Technician Will:

• Provided safe, age-appropriate patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, mobility, elimination, and personal care while promoting patient dignity and safety.
• Monitored and accurately documented vital signs, weights, intake/output, and other physiological parameters; promptly reported significant changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
• Assisted with treatments, procedures, dressing changes, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and physician examinations in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Provided one-to-one patient observation as needed, recognized changes in patient condition or safety concerns, and responded appropriately to emergency situations.
• Collaborated effectively with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members while maintaining clear communication, accurate documentation, and patient-centered care.
