Job summary

Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach seeks a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Intermediate Care Unit 4B on the night shift. You will assist with patient care, support admissions and discharges, and help maintain a safe, clean environment under the supervision of a registered nurse.

This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and active BLS certification within 90 days. CNA/NCMA/NCPCT or Navy Hospital Corps training or current clinical student status are acceptable

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Multiple acceptable certifications/pathways listed (CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, Navy Hospital Corps, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under the supervision of an licensed nurse.
• Support admissions and discharge processes.
• Observe and report changes in patients' conditions to the nurse.
• Adhere to patient safety practices on the unit.

Approximately 7pm to 7amDepartment/Position Overview:The Intermediate Care (IMCU) is a 24-bed unit located on the 3rd floor at Sentara Princess Anne hospital. Our patient population consists of medical surgical patients, patients requiring Bipaps and Chronic Ventilators. We are also a Stroke Certified unit.If you’re looking for a fast-paced unit with a supportive team. We would love for you to apply. We are willing to work with students schedules who are currently enrolled in a nursing program.Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nurse.EducationHigh School Diploma or EquivalentCertification/LicensureAmerican Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.Minimum requirements: Must have one of the followingSentara Care Partner Certification Program, orSuccessful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), orNational Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), orNational Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), orCompletion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, orEmergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, orCurrent student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT, orCurrent work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.ExperienceOne year of prior health care experience preferred.
