Job summary

Sentara Health in Virginia Beach is seeking a Patient Care Technician to work on IMCU 4B at Princess Anne Hospital. The role is part-time, dayshift, approximately 7am to 7pm, with supervision by a professional nurse.

Responsibilities include providing patient care under supervision, supporting admissions and discharges, and observing and reporting changes. Education requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; BLS certification within 90 days is required.

Overview

Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to work at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital located in Virginia Beach on Intermediate Care Unit 4B. The Intermediate Care (IMCU) is a 24‑bed unit located on the 3rd floor at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital. Our patient population consists of medical‑surgical patients, patients requiring BIPAPs and chronic ventilators. We are also a Stroke Certified unit. If you’re looking for a fast‑paced unit with a supportive team, we would love for you to apply. We are willing to work with students’ schedules who are currently enrolled in a nursing program.

Responsibilities

Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. They provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. They observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any changes to the nurse.

Certification / Licensure

American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire

Minimum Requirements

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT
• Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant

Experience

One year of prior health care experience preferred.
