Profile

Purpose and Scope: Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients, adhering to FMCNA policies, procedures, and training, and complying with regulations set by the corporation, state, and federal agencies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (FMCNA RN) or in an adjacent treatment room. Reports all incidents, complaints, or problems to the RN.
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment and supports quality improvement initiatives including the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAI).
• Supports productivity and quality goals, and, with documented competency, may set up and prime dialysis equipment.
• Welcomes patients, monitors their well-being, reports any complaints or unusual observations to the RN.
• Evaluates vascular access for patency, reports issues, and performs cannulation as directed.
• Calculates and inputs dialysis machine settings as prescribed, ensuring safety alarms are active.
• Records treatment data accurately and timely, initiates renal replacement treatments, and manages specimen collection and delivery.
• Monitors patient responses, evaluates complications, and reports to RN; discontinues treatments per procedures, and evaluates patients before discharge.
• Performs pre- and post-treatment assessments, including vital signs and weight, and documents all interventions and patient responses.
• Other duties as required, including assisting with patient movement and managing equipment.

  Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  Includes desk work, patient interaction, travel between facilities, and exposure to health risks. Requires heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and bending. Assistance and equipment aids are provided for heavy tasks.

  Education and Experience:

  High School Diploma required. 1-2 years' related experience and Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) certification required.
