Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I/II to support licensed clinicians and care teams in a dynamic hospital setting. The role involves direct patient care, observation of high-risk patients, and collaboration with nurses to ensure safety and quality care.

Responsibilities include assisting with daily living activities, vital signs, EKGs and lab specimen handling, with opportunities for phlebotomy in certain locations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic Life Support within 30 days of employment.
• Must be able to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Medical terminology knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Communicates clearly with the RN about observations and changes in patients.
• Provides constant observation for high-risk patients as assigned.
• Maintains safe environment and assists in de-escalation as directed.
• Assists patients with daily living activities and mobility.
• Performs patient care tasks such as taking vital signs and recording measurements.
• Performs EKGs, Point of Care tests and bladder scanning where applicable.
• Collects and prepares specimens for lab transport; phlebotomy in applicable locations.
