Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a patient care assistant to support the RN in inpatient units. The role includes basic nursing procedures, assisting with activities of daily living, vital signs, specimen collection, and ensuring patient comfort.

Requires training completion, reading/writing, and ability to follow instructions; ASN/BSN enrollment preferred. Full-time with 36 hours per week and rotating day/evening/night shifts.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• Must be able to attend 2 weeks of training.
• Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform basic mathematics.
• Basic computer skills.
• Preferred acute care experience within last 3 years.
• Currently enrolled in ASN or BSN program.
• Preference given to those enrolled in nursing programs and who completed at least one clinical rotation.

Responsibilities

• Provides, obtains or performs and documents direct patient care and activities such as: activities of daily living, vital signs, ambulation, specimen collection, intake and output, meals, blood glucose testing, bed/urinal care, transport of patients and medical records.
• Participates in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives including bedside shift reporting and hourly rounding for safety and cleanliness.
• Accurately documents vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimen collection, and other treatments; reports changes to nursing staff.
• Participates in unit activity such as supply stocking and equipment cleaning.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
