Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care seeks a Patient Care Technician on the downtown campus in Iowa City. Under supervision, you will support nursing staff in inpatient and outpatient care, performing core patient care tasks and basic diagnostic procedures.

Responsibilities include vital signs, hygiene, and data collection. The role offers a part-time schedule with shift differentials, and a comprehensive benefits package is available.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and follow instructions.
• Strong communication with patients, families, and staff.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
• Provide patient care with attention to condition and age.
• Knowledge of sanitation and health hazards.
• Maintain effective working relationships.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, instruments and supplies.
• Ability to collect patient data and maintain accurate records.
• Proficiency in keyboarding and basic data entry.

Responsibilities

• Independently record vital signs (temp, pulse, resp, BP).
• Perform phlebotomy and related aseptic tasks.
• Assist with basic diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.
• Support nurse in admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Provide patient comfort and personal hygiene care.
• Assist with mobility and positioning of patients.
• Transport patients, equipment and supplies as needed.
• Contribute to keeping units clean and well stocked.
