Job summary

UPMC is hiring Patient Care Technicians to work directly on designated nursing units while also joining a centralized PCT team to build clinical skills, safety, and patient-care competencies. The role includes a dual-placement model for onboarding and professional growth across neurology, cardiac care, orthopedics, and medical-surgical units.

Clinical placement requires rotating shifts (day, evening, overnight, weekend, holiday) with a mix of 8- and 12-hour shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years healthcare experience, or 1 year plus clinical rotation, or 1 year experience with a health sciences bachelor.
• CNA preferred.
• Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire.

Responsibilities

• Models safe patient-handling and evidence-based practices.
• Partners with nursing leadership in safety, quality, and patient-experience initiatives.
• Attends scheduled trainings and meetings.
• Maintains a strong attendance and professionalism.
• Assists with routine patient care and supports department services per policies and procedures.
• Duties may include ADLs, vital signs, simple dressings, EKGs, bladder scans, and specimen collections.
