Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Technician to provide hands-on patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will assist with activities of daily living, mobility, nutrition, hydration, and prepare patients and environments for procedures.

The role emphasizes compassionate, patient- and family-centered care, with accurate observation and documentation of patient status to support safety and quality outcomes across diverse care settings.

Qualifications

• Basic CNA Course or EMT-B Certification is required.
• Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
• Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within 3 months of hire.
• Must be 18 years old or older.

Responsibilities

• PCT performs patient care and treatments under supervision of a RN. Documents care including activities of daily living, mobility, specimen collection and respiratory support as directed by the RN.
• Possess the ability to lift, move, position and transport patients.
• Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule and strives to improve quality of care, patient and employee safety, and customer service.

Overview

Shift: 7a-7p/11a-11p Flex, every 4th weekend and holiday rotation, 36 hours/week

Under the direction of a licensed professional, the Patient Care Technician delivers hands-on patient care and comfort, assists with clinical procedures and technical tasks, and accurately observes, reports, and documents patient status. The role supports safe, efficient unit operations by focusing on personal care, mobility, nutrition, hydration, elimination, and prevention of complications, while preparing patients and environments for procedures. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, the PCT provides compassionate, patient- and family-centered support across diverse care settings to promote quality outcomes and a positive experience.
