Job summary

UnityPoint Health in West Des Moines, IA is hiring a Patient Care Technician for Methodist West Hospital. Under RN supervision, the PCT provides basic nursing care and documents activities of daily living, mobility and respiratory support.

Shifts available across multiple times; 0.9 FTE. Sign-On Bonus: $3,000. Qualifications include CNA or EMT-B, valid Driver's License, BLS within 3 months, and no prior experience required with on‑the‑job training.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old (some positions may require at least 18).
• CNA Course or EMT-B Certification required.
• Valid Driver’s License for work-related driving.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within three months from date of hire.
• Minimum Experience: Comprehensive on-the-job training provided – no prior experience necessary.

Responsibilities

• PCT performs patient care and treatments under supervision of an RN.
• Provides and documents care including activities of daily living, mobility, specimen collection, and respiratory support activities as directed by the RN.
• Possesses the ability to lift, move, position, and transport patients.
• Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule.
• Demonstrates initiative to improve quality of care, patient and employee safety, and customer service.

Overview

Under the direct supervision of a Nurse, the Patient Care Tech provides basic nursing care for the personal and comfort needs of the patient.

Units Available

• 4 West Med/Surg – Shifts: Full‑Time Nights, Part‑Time Days, Part‑Time Nights.
• 3 West Ortho & Med/Surg – Shifts: Full‑Time Days, Part‑Time Nights. (All shifts include a weekend and holiday rotation.)

Shift Differentials

• Shift differential of $2.65/hr for hours worked 3 pm–7 am.
• Weekend shift differential of $2.50/hr for hours worked between Friday 11 pm and Monday 7 am.
