Patient Care Technician - Ambulatory Surgery Center

Job Overview

UPMC Susquehanna Valley Surgery Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician for their Perianesthesia/OR Departments. This is a casual position with rotating day/evening shifts, Monday through Friday, with no weekends or holidays. The starting pay rate varies based on experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient procedures and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, and repositioning patients.
• Complete medical record documentation and report equipment malfunctions.
• Respond to call lights, pass meal trays, transport patients, and maintain safety policies.
• Establish effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Provide feedback to RNs, report changes in patient status, and instruct patients and families under RN supervision.
• Perform standard nursing assistant responsibilities, including ADLs, point-of-care testing, vital signs, and specimen collection.
• Achieve and maintain competency in advanced skills such as peripheral IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, and NG tube management.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• One year of healthcare experience, enrollment in a health sciences program, or completion of a healthcare degree or UPMC PCT training.
• CPR certification (BLS or equivalent) within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• EMT or Paramedic certification or current enrollment preferred.
• Microcomputer experience preferred.

Licenses and Clearances

CPR certification as per AHA standards is required within 30 days of hire.
