**South of Broad Healthcare (SOBH) is expanding access to high-quality, community-based healthcare throughout southern Beaufort County and the surrounding Lowcountry. Grounded by a mission of delivering compassionate, patient-centered care, SOBH supports strategic growth designed to bring essential healthcare services closer to the people and communities we serve. At the center of SOBH is Bluffton Community Hospital, a new 28 bed, full-service hospital. Approximately 90,000 square foot facility will include a 24/7 emergency department, an acute inpatient nursing unit, surgical and endoscopy suites, a cardiac catheterization lab, advanced imaging, laboratory services, and additional outpatient capabilities. The hospital is scheduled for completion in late 2026, with patient care anticipated to being early 2027.

This Patient Care Technician (PCT) position provides high-quality, compassionate care for both adults and pediatric (neonates, pediatrics and adolescents) patients. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Patient Care Technician will deliver direct patient care, support clinical operations, and adapt quickly to various patient and care environments. This position requires flexibility, strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and a committment to delivering exceptional patient care.

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilites Include But Are Not Limited To:
  • Patient Treatment Activities
    • Take and record vital signs, perform blood glucose measurements, empty drains, apply and remove telemetry
  • Patient Care Activities
    • Including bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation, repositioning, and assistance with activities of daily living
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, discharges and transportation throughout the facility
  • Assist nurses with procedures and treatments while maintaining patient comfort, safety, and privacy
  • EKG
    • Interprets and follows all established EKG based testing regulations
    • Operates EKG equipment for diagnostic procedures
    • Maintains EKG machines and other medical transportation equipment
    • Receives and evaluates trans-telephonic EKG recordings
  • Phlebotomy
    • Obtains blood samples for medical testing and transfusion through venipuncture or capillary puncutre.
    • Follows infection-control safety procedures in carrying out daily phlebotomy functions.
    • Prepares sample-collecting equipment, draws blood sample, and safely stores and transports samples.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the following

    • Patient Bill of Rights
    • Patient Care Handbook
Position Requirements
Education:
  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
Experience:
  • One or more years of acute care hospital experience preferred
  • Previous Float Pool experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology.
  • Possess visual, auditory, and verbal acuity
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact with patients, team members, and physicians in a courteous manner
  • Cooperative and flexible when responding to varying and unpredictable situations
Certifications/Licenses:
  • National Certification as a Patient Care Technician
    • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (skills check required)
    • Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant plus phlebotomy certification
    • Successful completion of the Beaufort Memorial PATH program as a Patient Care Technician
  • BLS certification required prior to first clinical shift (must be issued by the American Heart Association).
