Job summary

University of Michigan’s Michigan Medicine is seeking a Temp Nursing Assistant to support patient care on 11 west (Congenital Heart Defects) under the supervision of registered nurses.

The role involves preparing patients for examinations, assisting with monitoring equipment, administering medications as delegated, and ensuring the readiness of supplies and equipment. Flexibility for shift coverage and adherence to safety protocols are required.

Qualifications

• Required: Graduation from high school or an equivalent or a combination of education and experience.
• Desired: Experience working with children.

Responsibilities

• Perform delegated clinical or laboratory procedures.
• Monitor, setup and maintain the operations of clinical equipment.
• May monitor patient status, record and document vital signs.
• Stock and maintain inventory of specialized areas.
• May transport patients to and from designated locations.
• May assist with admitting and discharge procedures.
• May administer medications.
• Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Provides moderate to complex assistance to patients including drawing blood, operating medical monitoring equipment, administering medications, beginning or discontinuing catheters, or administering electrocardiograms.
• Prepares patients for examination including surgical instrument sterilization, supply, and equipment set up.
• Transports patients to/from surgery. Assists surgical team as needed with basic equipment and PPE preparation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

Under direct supervision from RN, provides direct patient care by performing delegated procedures of specialized and technical nature including setting up and maintaining specialized clinical equipment, collecting specimens, complex dressing changes, and other delegated nursing procedures. 11 west is a 32 bed unit that provides care to patients aged infant through adult with Congenital Heart Defects. This position's main focus will be assisting with the care of patients under the delegation of registered Nurses.

Required Qualifications*

• Preferred: Reasonable knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in laboratory and/or patient care activities.
