Job summary

Trinity Health Ann Arbor is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to provide direct patient care under RN supervision in the 8 East General Surgery unit. The role emphasizes age-appropriate, culturally sensitive support and safe, compassionate care.

Responsibilities include assisting with ADLs, collecting specimens, recording required data, and caring for diverse general surgery patients. Training is provided to ensure success within a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of one year of direct care experience or completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Responsibilities

• Assist patient in completing ADLs including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and feeding.
• Collect and send specimens including blood cultures and manage peripheral IV catheter care and documentation.
• Care for a wide variety of general surgery patients (colorectal, hepatobiliary, thyroid/parathyroid, vascular trauma).
• Maintain a clean, safe patient care environment and support relationship-based care.

Position Purpose:

The PCT, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care.

Shifts Available: 6:30 am-3:00pm; 2:30pm-11:00pm, 10:30pm-7:00am

Status Available: Full-time, Part-time

Every Other Weekend and Holiday per year required for Full-time and Part-time team members.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / LICENSURE

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

What you will do:

• Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success.
• The PCT assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection.
• A PCT will collects and send specimens including blood and blood cultures and inserts and removes peripheral IV catheters. They are responsible to record patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.
• A wide variety of general surgery patients, including: Colorectal, hepatobiliary, thyroid/parathyroid, and vascular trauma.
