Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Tech to join the patient-centered care team. You will provide direct patient care under RN supervision, assist with ADLs, collect specimens, perform phlebotomy, insert IVs, and document data in the health record.

You may assist with procedures, monitor patients, and support with rounds, transfers, and discharge activities, contributing to safe, high-quality care across units.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required.
• Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program required.
• Less than 1 year experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Tech required.
• Experience as a care technician; general health care experience in an acute care long-term care or other settings; student nurse in junior or senior year preferred.
• CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant certification required.
• CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification preferred.
• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers within 90 Days required.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to department goals and adheres to policies, procedures, quality and safety standards.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and personal hygiene.
• Collects specimens (blood, urine, sputum, stool); performs venipuncture; obtains EKGs; applies external telemetry monitoring; inserts IV catheters and inspects IV sites.
• Records intake/output, vital signs, height/weight, and other data in health record.
• Maintains patient comfort, privacy, dignity, and safety; participates in patient observation and CPR when needed.
• Rounds on assigned patients and communicates changes to the RN; ensures proper handoff between shifts.
