Job summary

Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach is hiring a Per Diem Patient Care Technician to assist RNs/LPNs in patient care and perform unit secretary duties. Responsibilities include transcription of orders, data entry, answering calls, and restocking supplies, with emphasis on infection control and safety.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, CNA/EMT certification, and current BLS.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) or EMT certification required/completed.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification.
  • CPI training within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist RN or LPN in patient care and personal care as directed.
  • Serve as unit secretary: transcribe orders, retrieve patient information, maintain records, answer phones, deliver supplies.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and security procedures at all times.
  • Adapt to varied age-specific patient populations.

Position Summary

A Patient Care Technician is responsible and accountable for assisting the RN or LPN in the provision of patient care and tending to the personal care needs of the patient as directed by the RN or LPN, as well as functioning as a unit secretary. Unit Secretary duties include, but are not limited to, the transcription and data entry of physician orders, retrieving patient information, maintaining patients' data records, answering phones, taking and reporting messages, running errands, delivery and pick up of specimens and supplies, as well as ordering and restocking of unit supplies.

Responsibilities
  • Reports for scheduled shift on time and prepared to assume responsibilities.
  • Attends and participates in meetings and is responsible for information communicated at meetings.
  • Adheres to Corporate, Regional, hospital and departmental policy and procedure 100% of the time.
  • Assists all patients, family members, physicians, visitors and employees in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Follows Infection Control procedures at all times.
  • Adheres to the Safety Policies and Procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, Hazardous Material procedures, and Safety Codes.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of Security issues, i.e., personal protection, protection of personnel and hospital property.
  • Adheres to the following environmental care standards. Demonstrates adequate knowledge of Safety Policies and Procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, Hazardous Material procedures, and Safety Codes.
  • Demonstrates the ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations.
Qualifications
EDUCATION.
  • Minimum:High School Diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous Patient Care Technician experience preferred.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE/REGISTRATION:
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) or E.M.T. and documented evidence of successful completion of an accredited nursing school program.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) – 90 days from hired date
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
  • None required.
