Job summary

VCU Health System Authority is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide direct, age-specific care under RN direction in a busy Medical-Surgical unit. You will perform data collection, monitor patient status, and assist with daily activities while maintaining a safe environment.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and CNA/EMT or related training; BLS certification is preferred. The role emphasizes teamwork, learning, and adherence to hospital policy.

Qualifications

• High School Degree or equivalent.
• CNA, Medical Assistant, EMT, Military Corpsman/Medic, Nursing Aide Training, or equivalent.
• Experience within a healthcare environment.
• Completion of foundations/clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
• AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and direct care to patients in assigned unit.
• Monitor patients' conditions and provide updates to the health care team.
• Maintain a safe, clean, stocked environment to facilitate patient needs.
• Obtain and record patient information, vitals, intake/outtake as outlined by policy.
• Assist in collection of specimens for diagnostic tests.
• Attend mandatory trainings and adhere to required online trainings.
• Ensure patient safety and participate in safety initiatives.
• Establish rapport with patients and health care team; respond to instructions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
