Job summary

The Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Tech Intern for the Surgical Inpatient / IMC Unit (Zayed 11 West) in Baltimore. The role supports nurses, performing routine patient activities and delegated care with developmentally appropriate tasks under supervision.

This 32-bed unit handles Thoracic, Urology, Vascular, Trauma, and general surgery patients. The intern position is limited to one year and requires CNA in Maryland, BLS CPR, and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Active Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in Maryland required.
• BLS CPR certification required (AHA/Red Cross or MTN accepted).
• PCT Intern will remain in intern role up to 1 year before advancing.

Responsibilities

• Support nursing personnel with routine patient care activities.
• Assist with the needs and comfort of patients on the unit.
• Document performed procedures as directed by supervisors.

The Patient Care Tech Intern works under the supervision of a nurse and taking into consideration the developmental needs of the patient, performs routine patient activities and delegated patient care procedures of a specialized and technical nature as competent documentation designates.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital Surgical Inpatient / IMC Unit (Zayed 11 West) is a 32-bed surgical unit caring for adolescent and adult patients. The unit offers 3 levels of care: floor, telemetry, and 9 intermediate care beds. Care and services provided: Thoracic Surgery (lung resections, pneumonectomy, esophagectomy), Urology (RRP, TURP), Vascular Surgery, Trauma Surgery, and a large variety of other general surgery patients.

• Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Active Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in Maryland is required.
• Entry-level knowledge of basic clinical skills required to support nursing personnel with patient care activities and related services focused on the needs and comfort of patients. PCT Intern will remain in an intern role for no longer than 1 year. The PCT Intern will advance to the PCT I upon meeting training requirements.
• BLS CPR certification required: AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted.

Salary Range

Minimum $18.00/hour - Maximum $18.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
