Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support a decentralized, patient-centered care approach under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will measure and document vital signs, assist with daily activities, and help the care team maintain a clean, safe patient environment.

Responsibilities include monitoring patients, assisting with basic treatments, providing emotional support, and ensuring supplies and equipment are ready.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• At least 1 year of patient care experience in a health care facility preferred.
• BLS certification required on hire and must be maintained.

Responsibilities

• Keep patient rooms tidy and sanitized.
• Assist patients with everyday needs (hygiene, restroom, grooming).
• Monitor vital signs and patient condition, report changes.
• Assist nursing staff with basic treatments and care tasks.
• Ensure rooms have adequate supplies and clean linen.
• Provide emotional support and communicate with the care team.
• Place patient on cardiac monitor when indicated.
• Perform blood sugar checks and manage simple tasks as assigned.
