Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide age-appropriate, direct care under RN direction. You will monitor vitals, assist with daily activities, and help implement the plan of care in a safe environment.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with CNA and BLS certifications preferred or required. You will participate in mandatory trainings, document patient data, and support a compassionate patient experience across units.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred.
• AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required or equivalent.
• Licensure/certification as nursing aide/technician is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, direct care to patients with age-appropriate adjustments.
• Monitor patient conditions and communicate updates to care team.
• Assist with personal hygiene, comfort, and safety needs.
• Follow nursing/medical plans of care and hospital policies.
• Maintain a safe, clean, stocked clinical environment.
• Document initial and ongoing patient information per policy.
• Assist with specimen collection and participate in required trainings.
• Support patient safety initiatives and respond to instructions promptly.
• Establish rapport with patients and care staff; demonstrate sensitivity.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
