Job summary

MercyOne Medical Group in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Patient Care Tech to support clinical staff by delivering direct patient care and performing assigned tests and studies. You will work 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with rotating weekends and holidays in a busy hospital setting.

The role involves assisting with personal care, monitoring vital signs, collecting specimens, and ensuring patient safety under supervision of RNs/LPNs. Prior BLS is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three months of hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Delivers assigned patient care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN.
• Performs activities including personal hygiene, bathing, ambulation, transporting, ROM, dressing, feeding, wound care, and elimination needs.
• Responds to patient calls and ensures safety through rounding, equipment checks and safe handling.
• Calculates intake/output, measures vitals, performs bedside glucose tests, and records entries.
• Initiates or assists with emergency measures (CPR) and post-mortem care.
• Sets up equipment, prepares patients for procedures/admissions/transfers, and discharges when appropriate.
• Monitors changes in condition and communicates observations to the nurse.
• Collects and labels specimens and maintains equipment.
