Job summary

St. Luke’s University Health Network in Lehighton, PA is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to support nursing staff in direct patient care. You will participate in data collection, planning and implementation of patient care, perform essential tasks under supervision, and help maintain patient comfort.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, basic computer skills, and BLS certification within 60 days. Training opportunities and an emphasis on professional development are provided.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Health care specialty training preferred.
• Obtain BLS certification within sixty (60) days of employment or transfer to position.
• Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Perform vital signs, intake/output measurements, EKGs, glucometry, phlebotomy, specimen collection and document.
• Follow treatment plan as directed by licensed personnel.
• Perform necessary functions to ensure patient comfort and satisfaction with service.
• Perform patient mobilization using appropriate and proper body mechanics and assistive device.
• Accept responsibility for providing safe, appropriate, quality patient care.
• Communicate changes in patients’ conditions and unit concerns with the unit based team.
• Restock unit supplies as needed.
• Perform equipment checks and unit specific maintenance duties as appropriate to unit.
• Take active role in unit based performance improvement.
• Maintain awareness of unit budget.
• Maintain responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs as well as timely completion of competencies.
• Assist in orienting and educating new staff.
• Must be able to float as needed per unit and hospital policy.

Education
