Job summary

University Hospitals Pain Management at Elyria Medical Center is accepting applications for a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA). Positions include full time and part time depending on openings, with a one week orientation, Monday–Friday 8am–4:30pm, and rotating day/night shifts.

The PCNA provides delegated patient care and clerical support under the RN, performing ADLs, vital signs, I&O, 12‑lead ECG, hygiene, venipuncture where applicable, and helps maintain patient records.

Qualifications

• Assists with unit operations, stocking supplies, and onboarding new staff.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic patient care tasks as delegated by the RN and assists, under the direction of the RN, in the implementation of the established plan of care.
• Compassionate in all interactions with patients, families, and peers.
• Follows established evidence-based prevention guidelines to promote positive patient outcomes. (15%)
• Provides a safe environment in patient rooms and on unit.
• Facilitates stocking and ordering of supplies for patient care.
• Assists with unit communication.
• Acts as a key resource for onboarding and training new team members.

Job description

Positions are for Elyria Medical Center only

Full Time and Part Time depending on available openings

There is a one week orientation requirement. Monday-Friday 8a-430pm.

Various units

Possible units available: Emergency Department, 6 Smythe (Ortho/Med/Surg), 8 Smythe (Cardiac/Tele) 9 Smythe (Observation/Cardiac Tele) 10 Smythe (Med/Surg) , 11 Smythe (Med/Surg), Clinical Float Pool, In patient Psych, Outpatient Surgery

Day and Night shifts depending on available shifts

Typically 12 hour shifts, rotating weekends and holidays

A Brief Overview

The Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) completes patient care activities and provides clerical support as delegated by the RN. PCNAs perform duties including, but not limited to: ADLs, vital signs, I&O, 12-lead ECG, bladder scan, hygiene, and venipuncture (where applicable). Familiarity with using: Wheelchair, EKG equipment, patient assistive devices, and patient care equipment specific to assigned population. Assists with patient data collection and reporting. Maintains the patient record (in written and/or electronic format). Facilitates communication and efficient unit operations. Orients newly hired PCNAs.
