Job summary

University Hospitals Pain Management is seeking a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) to perform basic patient care tasks under the RN, including ADLs, vital signs, I&O, 12-lead ECG, and data collection, while maintaining PHI privacy.

You will contribute to unit operations, stock supplies, assist with communication, and serve as a resource for onboarding new team members, ensuring compassionate care and safe environments.

Job description

A Brief Overview

The Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) completes patient care activities and provides clerical support as delegated by the RN. PCNAs perform duties including, but not limited to: ADLs, vital signs, I&O, 12-lead ECG, bladder scan, hygiene, and venipuncture (where applicable). Familiarity with using: Wheelchair, EKG equipment, patient assistive devices, and patient care equipment specific to assigned population. Assists with patient data collection and reporting. Maintains the patient record (in written and/or electronic format). Facilitates communication and efficient unit operations. Orients newly hired PCNAs.

• Follows established evidence-based prevention guidelines to promote positive patient outcomes. (15%)


• Provides a safe environment in patient rooms and on unit.


• Facilitates stocking and ordering of supplies for patient care.


• Assists with unit communication.


• Acts as a key resource for onboarding and training new team members.
