Job summary

Naples Comprehensive Health - NCH is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide basic patient care under established standards. Based at our Naples facility, you will support exams, prepare patients, collect samples and document results in the EMR.

Responsibilities include assisting providers, coordinating referrals, answering patient inquiries and maintaining infection control practices in a fast-paced outpatient setting. A high school diploma and MA training or certification are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of High School or GED required.
• Completion of Medical Assistant or practical nursing training with practicum; OR Medical Assistant certification; OR a minimum of one-year experience performing above duties in a medical office setting or medical capacity.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Verified ability to take accurate patient vital signs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively articulate and explain required information to patients.
• Knowledge of CPT and ICD9 codes.
• Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
• Knowledge of basic and specialty medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned and may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow.
• Escorting patients to exam/procedure rooms; observes, records and reports patient observations and reactions to drugs and treatments to providers.
• Assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
• Collecting patient history including current medications, allergies, symptoms, etc.
• Provide patient care as directed by the provider; may include screenings, treatments in line with standards.
• Assisting providers with various procedures as needed.
• Documents in the EMR and relays information to patient/family; records interventions and meds.
• Answering patient phone calls and messages; acts as liaison between patient and provider.
• Fulfills clerical duties such as filing or sending medical records and scheduling.
• Handling lab specimens per infection control guidelines and maintaining equipment and supplies.
• Utilizes referrals process to complete requested physician referrals to NCHMD specialists.
