Job summary

Ochsner LSU Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide individualized patient care under the supervision of a licensed health care provider. The role supports patients in person, by phone, and electronically, coordinating with the attending physician and care team to ensure smooth visits.

Required – High school diploma; Preferred – completion of a formal medical assistant training program and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of clinical workflows and patient care processes.
• Proficiency with computers, software, and web-based applications.
• Ability to communicate clearly with patients and staff.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

• Supports the patient and provider throughout the patient visit.
• Ensures the patient and provider are prepared for the visit.
• Ensures the patient’s questions are answered prior to leaving; prepares room for next appointment.
• Provides excellent patient service through effective communication both over the phone and in person.
• Completes appropriate documentation including patient registration if necessary.
• Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials through personal professional development.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including privacy respect and communication style.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
