Job summary

Ochsner Health in Louisiana seeks a Medical Assistant to provide individualized patient care in person, electronically and by phone under supervision of a licensed provider. You will support the patient and provider throughout the visit and help prepare the patient for the appointment, answering questions and documenting essential information.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED; completion of a medical assistant training program is preferred, plus BLS certification and experience

Qualifications

• Required - High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
• Preferred - Completion of a formal medical assistant training program
• Experience handling confidential information in a fast-paced environment
• Required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

• Supports the patient and provider throughout the patient visit
• Ensures the patient and provider are prepared for the visit
• Answers patient questions prior to leaving and prepares room for next appointment
• Provides excellent patient service through effective communication both over the phone and in person
• Completes appropriate documentation including patient registration when necessary
• Maintains clinical knowledge and credentials through ongoing development
• Adheres to Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol Testing requirements when applicable
• Performs other duties as assigned and complies with policies and standards
