Eyes on the Square is a beautiful, modern, upscale, Christian-owned private optometry practice and optical shop on the Downtown Bentonville Square. We are hiring for a full-time patient care coordinator / optometric technician.

Starting pay is $18/hr for candidates without prior experience, with higher starting rates for those who bring relevant skills or experience. Ample opportunity for growth for motivated individuals.

The candidate we're seeking is both professional and bubbly! This person needs to be a natural communicator and able to think on their feet to problem solve. This role requires someone who is organized, detail oriented, and enthusiastic about excellence and learning new things, as extensive on the job training will be provided. No eye care experience is required, but it is appreciated. We’re looking for great character and a willingness to learn above all else!

This role will be dynamic and will include (but is not limited to):

As an Optometric Technician: .

  • Perform pre-testing (e.g., visual acuities, pupils/EOMS/CT/CVF, autorefraction/keratometry, iCare tonometry, and lensometry).
  • Document patients’ chief complaints and gather a thorough history, including personal and family medical history, review of systems, current medications, and other relevant details.
  • Capture diagnostic images (Optomap retinal photos, OCT, visual field, dry eye testing, etc) and prepare accurate, clean data for the doctor(s).
  • Maintain a tidy, hygienic clinical environment and perform basic instrument care.
  • Pivot smoothly between tasks while delivering consistently excellent service to every patient.
  • Work up patients promptly to keep the doctor on schedule, coordinating with the front desk if adjustments are needed..

As a Patient Care Coordinator: .

  • Closely collaborate with the doctor(s) to educate patients on next steps, medications, contact lens care, and follow-up.
  • Coordinate referrals, schedule follow-ups, and support check-out.
  • Verify insurance benefits, calculate patient portions, and accurately record charges.
  • Manage all aspects of contact lens follow-ups, sales, and orders (including trial and revenue orders).
  • Coordinate with vendors to maintain stock and ensure pricing is current.
  • Monitor and help manage the daily schedule, collaborating with the front desk to balance exam types, patient history, and patient needs while ensuring the doctor’s time is used effectively.
  • Serve as a consistent point of contact for patients, maintaining continuity and clear communication throughout their care.
  • Problem-solve and make operational decisions in Dr. Howell’s absence, providing guidance consistent with his preferences and practice standards (excluding medical or clinical decisions), and serve as a reliable support to help anticipate needs and keep things running smoothly.

Everyone on our teamcollaborates on the following tasks as needed:

  • Pulling insurance benefits (vision and medical)
  • Communicating with patients via phone, text, fax, email, and occasionally mail
  • Checking patients in and out
  • Reviewing paperwork
  • Maintain clean and organized work spaces as well as cleaning the office (a team effort)
