Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Patient Care Associate (PCA) to support surgical patients at Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO. The role operates under the direction of an RN or LPN and contributes to each patient's wellness through designated clinical and support tasks.

The position is PRN with a 12-hour night shift (1830-0700). Mercy emphasizes training, safety, and teamwork, offering a pathway to develop essential healthcare competencies within a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred for PRN status, however none required for PCA role.
• If no previous experience, Mercy will provide a 175-hour training program within 90 days of hire.

Position Details:

Patient Care Associate - PCA

Location: Mercy Hospital Southeast, Cape Girardeau, MO

Department: Surgical

Status: PRN

Shift: 12 hour Nights (1830-0700)

Qualifications:

• Experience: Experience Preferred for PRN status, however none required for PCA role. If no previous experience, will be considered for PCA role in which Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.

• Preferred Experience: PCA, CNA, or active nursing student.

• Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, CNA/CPTC. or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum or age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program, and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.

• Certifications: BLS Required within one month of hire, completion of PCA competencies within 3 months of hire

• Other:Minimum Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.

  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
